Profile

Tyler joined SSBP in 2013, focusing his transactional practice primarily on commercial real estate. His practice also includes corporate and intellectual property transactions.

From raw land to improved properties (e.g., shopping centers, office buildings and apartments), Tyler routinely advises developers and investors with respect to acquiring, financing, developing, operating, managing, leasing and/or selling of real property. In combination with SSBP’s probate/estate planning and family law practices, his real estate practice commonly involves residential matters. Tyler also frequently counsels clients on construction law matters, including drafting prime and subcontracts, and with respect to lien matters.

Tyler’s practice also includes advising clients on various business law and technology transactions. He helps clients form and operate corporations and other types of entities, and handles asset/stock sales for of a variety of business types, including dental practices. In addition to providing a full range of trademark services, he advises clients with respect to agreements for the protection, licensing and transfer of intellectual property rights.

Tyler began his legal career with a global law firm where he concentrated his practice on intellectual property transactions. During law school, Tyler served as a member of The Houston Law Review, which published his award-winning article in the field of dispute resolution.

Real Estate

  • Assisted Fortune 500 client with due diligence matters related to acquisition of multiple properties in Texas, including an office building in Houston’s Midtown area.
  • Handled sale of raw land in Houston for a sum in excess of $23M.
  • Advised nation-wide general contractor with respect to form subcontract and related lien documentation, including how to streamline the contracting process through online general terms and conditions.
  • Counseled one of the nation’s largest homebuilders on numerous lot acquisitions, swaps and sales, as well as raw land developments, in Houston and surrounding areas.
  • Served as local counsel for out-of-state acquirer of multiple, multi-million dollar office buildings in Houston.
    Advised client with respect to acquiring and financing of eight-figure office building in Houston, as well as subsequent leasing matters.
  • Assisted with anchor lease to well-known specialty grocery store in the Katy Area.
  • Advised multiple co-executors regarding the listing and sale of multi-million dollar residence in Houston.
  • Assisted with the refinancing of one of Houston’s long-standing and most well-known shopping centers.
  • Advised local real estate developer regarding a creative net profits interest (NPI) approach to securing the equity the client required.
  • Assisted a Canada-based closed-end real estate investment trust with the acquisition and sale of shopping centers located in Texas.
  • Advised local church regarding amendments to longstanding deed restrictions.

  • Assisted with the asset sale of one of the largest manufacturers of drum set sticks in the world.
  • Advised client regarding the acquisition of multiple dental practices in Houston and surrounding areas.
  • Assisted with the asset sale of nationally-based fleet management and leasing company.
  • Advised a local doctor regarding the sale of the assets of his longstanding medical practice.
  • Assisted with potential asset sale of leading travel consulting company.
  • Negotiated the franchise agreement for a potential franchisee of national pizza franchise.

  • Assisted in drafting a celebrity agreement for a renowned actor.
  • Counseled client in relation to dispute with well-known game provider and related protection of intellectual property rights.
  • Conducted clearance searches, obtained trademarks and prepared license agreements for local dental practices.
  • Advised Texas-based inventor on trade secret matters related to proprietary citrus processes.
  • Conducted due diligence of IP rights in conjunction with numerous movie productions.
  • Researched issues related to privacy in the workplace for local manufacturing company.
  • Advised one of the largest not-for-profit elderly care centers with respect to cybersquatting and other domain-related issues.
  • Secured trademark protection for a local seafood restaurant with multiple locations.
  • Advised a local manufacturer of drill bits regarding the transfer of certain IP rights.

Personal

A third-generation attorney, Tyler greatly values working closely with his father Stephen, who likewise practiced law with his own father, Tyler’s grandfather. Tyler enjoys spending time with his wife, Lindsay, and their first child, Alexander, who was born in December of 2014. He also enjoys hunting, fishing, exercising and watching movies.
