Profile

Raymond has devoted his career to Labor and Employment law and has been Board Certified in this field by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization since 1976. Raymond, a native Houstonian, began his career with the National Labor Relations Board as an attorney in its Memphis, Tennessee office in 1966. Since 1968, he has represented employers in all aspects of employment law, first at a boutique labor law firm in Memphis, Tennessee, then at a boutique labor law firm in Houston. Prior to coming to SSBP, Raymond had a long term referral relationship with the firm and moved his practice to SSBP in 2001.

Representative Matters

  • In the latest unionization attempt of a client, provided guidance to an employer resulting in defeating the union organization effort by a wide majority.
  • Assisted a variety of clients in obtaining summary judgments in connection with discrimination lawsuits.
  • Provided advice to a variety of clients with respect to responding to OSHA investigations, including on-the-job fatalities, and successful negotiations of resolutions favorable to the employers.
  • Helped numerous employers dealing with claimed misclassification of employees and failure to pay overtime with respect to investigations by the U.S. Department of Labor, Wage & Hour Division and negotiations leading to favorable results for the companies.
  • Was successful in getting a preliminary conditional class certification in a Wage & Hour lawsuit overturned.
  • Provided employee training for many employers in the effort to avoid claims of discrimination and harassment.
